Oh, you cannot say the name Bill Nye without following it with the phrase “the Science Guy” (at least in your head). For a Disney/PBS show that lasted only 5 years, Bill Nye has left an indelible, bowtie shaped impression and instilled a thirst for scientific discovery on millions.
Now that alone should earn him a place on the premier HubbleGum Card collection, but Bill Nye the Science Guy! (told you) has grown to become even more of a force in popularizing and championing science and science education. A very popular, outspoken and recognizable figure, he is a frequent television guest, especially surrounding the topic of Global Warming/Climate Change. Mr. Nye has worked with science notables from Neil deGrasse Tyson to NASA and is current CEO of the Planetary Society.
“There’s nothing I believe in more strongly than getting young people interested in science and engineering, for a better tomorrow, for all humankind.”
Bill Nye (1955 – ) With his signature bowtie, no one can signify the fun and exciting adventure of science to children (and parents) of the 90’s like Bill Nye the Science Guy. A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nye worked for Boeing in Seattle. It was in Seattle that “the Science Guy” persona was born. It started as a 6 minute segment on a local comedy show that led to other appearances and eventually the Disney show “Bill Nye the Science Guy”. Each episode presented one scientific concept with humor and emphasis on experimentation and exploration. Nye is a well regarded, vocal supporter of science and science education. In addition to being a sought after television guest, Nye has been a guest professor at Cornell and met with President Obama to discuss climate change.
Recognition: Bill Nye is the current serving CEO of The Planetary Society; an organization dedicated to advancing space science and exploration. Nye has received honorary doctorates from several universities.
I think it would be ‘Nye’ on impossible to not want this card in the first set but, as always, your thoughts and votes are welcome. Cast your vote here:
